Q&A: How do i clean the electronics of an electric guitar?

Question by Patrick: How do i clean the electronics of an electric guitar?
Its actually an electric bass (Schecter) and i just bought it on craigslist... the volume and tone nobs are pretty scratchy and static-y when i turn them while im plugged in. Also the 1/4" jack is kinda crackly if i wiggle the chord. I assume this is all a simple dust problem. If so, is it as simple as removing the pick gaurd and spraying some compressed air around in there? Thanks for your help!
