Really confused on the notes for the Base guitar?

Question by : Really confused on the notes for the Base guitar?
See if anybody place bass guitar here's the question: on the open A string theres all the notes from A-G, but after you finish the G there is still a remainder of Frets left over, what are those used for? Do they start over again or what?
